Catalog Spree, maker of a catalog shopping app for the iPad, has sealed $6.1 million in Series A funding. Comcast Ventures led the round, with participation from BlackBerry Partners Fund and El Dorado Ventures.
Catalog Spree, the highest rated catalog shopping app for the iPad®, announced today that it has raised $6.1 million in Series A funding, led by Comcast Ventures, with participation from BlackBerry Partners Fund and El Dorado Ventures.
This new round of financing will fuel continued innovations in tablet-based user experiences and provide a new platform for retailers to express their brands directly to consumers. Since its launch in late-April, 2011, Catalog Spree has grown to include more than 100 retail catalogs and is the highest-rated, reviewed and used catalog shopping app in the App Store.
“Catalog Spree is changing the way people engage with retail brands – and the way brands interact with their customers,” said Michael Yang, Managing Director at Comcast Ventures. “The company excels at delivering an interactive user experience that defines the future of mobile shopping.”
According to an October 2011 survey by the National Retail Federation, seven in 10 tablet owners plan to use their devices to research and shop this holiday season – more than a third will make a purchase using their device. Usage data from Catalog Spree supports these findings, with shoppers now spending more than 30 minutes on the app and viewing more than 100 pages per session.
“Catalog Spree is simply the best retail entertainment and social shopping experience on the iPad,” said Joaquin Ruiz, CEO of Catalog Spree. “We’re going to continue thrilling our customers, evolving our gorgeous personalized shopping experience, and delighting our retailers with the highest consumer engagement.”
Catalog Spree also announced today three powerful additions to the executive team, including Claudia Carpenter as the Vice President of User Experience, Lee Bieber as the Vice President of Engineering and Operations, and Maggie Athoe as the Vice President of U.S. Sales. Carpenter is a veteran software engineer and a founder of Writely, which became Google Docs when it was acquired in 2006. Bieber brings over 20 years of experience in high-tech with industry-leading organizations including Rackspace, Intuit and Sun Microsystems as well as several start-ups. Athoe’s unparalleled sales background includes more than 25 years of experience adding significant revenue to Fortune 100 and 500 retailers.
