UTIMCO Takes A Big Piece Of Ehrenberg’s New Fund, Adds Union Square, True Ventures And Artiman Funds: Slideshow
The University of Texas Management Company is among the largest investors in Roger Ehrenberg’s second fund, with a 30% stake of the new IA Ventures Strategies Fund II, according to a recent UTIMCO portfolio report.
University money managers also recently bought into funds from Union Square Ventures, True Ventures, Sofinnova Ventures, Sante Ventures and Artiman Ventures, according to the portfolio report updated to November 2011.
In total, UTIMCO committed $202.5 million to the six new venture funds between May and November of last year. Four of the funds target information technology investments and two are focused on life sciences startups.
Along with its $30 million stake in Ehrenberg’s new fund, UTIMCO purchased a 40% piece of Sante Health Ventures II and a 23.33% slice of True Ventures III, the report shows. It holds smaller stakes on a percentage basis of Sofinnova Venture Partners VIII, the Union Square Ventures Opportunity Fund and the Artiman Ventures Special Opportunity Fund.
Ehrenberg formally announced his new fund in February and said he raised more than $105 million. The fund has a data-focused investment theme.
