Cleantech VC Buys Hillsborough Home for $2.3M

David Coglizer, a principal at cleantech venture firm The Westly Group, and his wife, Evelyn M. Neumayr, have bought a home for (jeez Louise) $2.28 million, according to BlockShopper.com.

The five-bedroom home is located in Hillsborough, a wealthy community on the peninsula below San Francisco. At 3,430 square feet, it gives the newlyweds (they married in June 2010) plenty of room to grow.

You can take a virtual tour of the home here.

Zillow describes it as a “storybook,” “Country English” home with an “abundance of attention to detail throughout.” Oh, and it has a wine cellar, natch.

Coglizer, who once ran for a seat in the California State Assembly, joined The Westly Group in November 2008, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is one of three principals at the firm. Prior to joining The Westly Group, Coglizer was a senior category manager for eBay for about five years.

Former Austin Ventures Partner Hosts Obama in Floating Box House

Wesner

Blaine Wesner, a special limited partner at Austin Ventures, and his wife, Alexa Wesner, hosted a fund-raising dinner for President Obama earlier this month at their “Floating Box House” in West Lake Hills, Texas.

The stunning house was designed by Peter Gluck and Partners in Austin, Texas. You can see lots of photos of it here.

Time’s Mark Halperin blogged about the house:

“Unusual and strikingly beautiful design: the top floor is a rectangle that seems to float on another rectangle of glass windows. The dinner was held on the window floor – several tables with clear Lucite chairs that made a ton of noise as they scraped the marble floor. The president stood with his back to one of the glass walls, so the guests were facing the view: in the foreground, an infinity pool. In the background, seven or eight miles away, downtown Austin.”

A bio on the Austin Ventures website says Wesner joined the firm in 1990 and was a general partner for nearly 15 years. He retired from active investing in 2009, but “continues to be an active supporter of the Texas entrepreneurial community as well as many Austin-area charitable and community service organizations,” the bio states.

Zuckerberg is Killing ‘em with Kindness

The big buzz in the Twittersphere Thursday was a Fortune story about Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to eat only what he kills. The magazine reported that the Facebook CEO freaked out some of his friends on May 4 when he posted a Facebook status update that read: “I just killed a pig and a goat.”

Zuckerberg explained to Fortune via email that he gives himself a personal challenge each year, and this year the challenge “is around being thankful for the food I have to eat.”

He continued: “I think many people forget that a living being has to die for you to eat meat, so my goal revolves around not letting myself forget that and being thankful for what I have. This year I’ve basically become a vegetarian since the only meat I’m eating is from animals I’ve killed myself. So far, this has been a good experience. I’m eating a lot healthier foods and I’ve learned a lot about sustainable farming and raising of animals.”

A Silicon Valley chef named Jesse Cool has been helping Zuckerberg on his journey. Fortune reports that Cool “introduced Zuckerberg to nearby farmers and advised him as he killed his first chicken, pig, and goat. ‘He cut the throat of the goat with a knife, which is the most kind way to do it,’” says Cool.”

Zuckerberg’s new pastime quickly made the rounds on Twitter.

When Highland Capital Partners GP Bijan Salehizadeh sent a tweet saying he heard sirens on Sand Hill Road, Highland Senior Associate Alexander Taussig quickly tweeted back: “Zuck is killing his dinner and someone called the police. There’s wildlife on Sand Hill right?”
