Founders of Hotwire & TripIt Secure $3.2 Million Seed Round for Chairish

Funding Will Accelerate Growth Of Peer-to-Peer Marketplace For Buying and Selling Exceptional Pre-Owned Home Furnishings

SAN FRANCISCO, July 18, 2013 – Design-obsessed consumers nationwide who are interested in buying or selling exceptional pre-owned home furnishings have been delighted by Chairish since its launch in February. To accelerate growth and expand its marketplace, Chairish has raised a $3.2 million seed round from Azure Capital Partners and O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures (OATV), both of which invested in TripIt.

Chairish’s mission is to help make the world more beautiful, one room at a time, while helping people save money in the process. The founding team includes senior executives, entrepreneurs and design-obsessed individuals from Hotwire, TripIt, Yahoo!, Expedia, eBay and Levi Strauss & Company: Gregg and Anna Brockway, Eric Grosse, Andy Denmark and Nancy Ramamurthi.

Eric Grosse, President and co-founder stated, “We started Chairish with the simple belief that selling and buying quality pre-owned furniture and décor should be easy and fun. We’re creating a dramatically better experience for sellers, which in turn makes Chairish an attractive destination for savvy buyers looking to make their homes more beautiful at a fraction of the cost of buying new. This capital will help us create an even more delightful experience, expand seller services and reach more design-loving consumers nationwide.”

“Azure believes curated commerce is the wave of the future and what could be better for us than to back an all-star team delivering this innovation and value to the $87 billion furniture market,” said Mike Kwatinetz, founding General Partner at Azure Capital Partners.

Mark Jacobsen, Managing Director at OATV added, “We are thrilled to once again back founding members of TripIt and Hotwire, and fully expect Chairish to disrupt the market for high-quality design furnishings by leveraging a focused peer-to-peer approach.”

At Chairish.com, buyers who want great design and value get access to a curated selection of high-quality and, often, one-of-a-kind home furnishings and décor at up to 70% off the estimated retail price. Pieces are directly sold by their design-loving owners and range from Christian Liaigre to Holly Hunt to vintage, mid-century modern, contemporary and more.

For sellers, Chairish makes it “easy as pie” to offer their unneeded, but fabulous home furnishings to a large online audience of design lovers who’ll appreciate them. Chairish provides sellers with as much or little service as they need. In all cases, Chairish handles pesky logistics and payments – making selling easier, safer, faster and more lucrative than through other online or traditional channels.
