Tiger Cool Express (“TCX”) has received an equity investment and a future equity commitment from Tiger Infrastructure Partners to support the growth of its business. TCX is a new venture focused on rail intermodal transportation of temperature-controlled freight. TCX’s focus will be the transportation of perishables – primarily fresh produce – from California, Texas, and Florida to the Eastern United States and Canada using rail intermodal service. TCX’s service will represent a lower-cost, more reliable, and environmentally-friendly alternative to long-haul truck transportation.
TCX is led by a management team with over 100 years of experience in the intermodal and transportation sectors and who is investing alongside Tiger. Thomas Finkbiner serves as the CEO of TCX. Mr. Finkbiner previously served as CEO of the trucking company Quality Distribution, Inc. and led the intermodal division of Norfolk Southern. Theodore Prince serves as Chief Operating Officer and C. Thomas Shurstad serves as Chief Commercial Officer. Mr. Prince and Mr. Shurstad previously held senior roles with Kansas City Southern, ‘K’ Line, and Conrail, and, Pacer, Railex, and Southern Pacific, respectively. TCX is headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas.
Thomas Finkbiner said, “Our business strategy is to transform the way produce is distributed in the United States. Customers want a reliable and efficient alternative to traditional trucking. TCX has developed an innovative solution that offers compelling value to shippers that overcomes structural obstacles that have historically prevented intermodal from successfully transporting produce.”
Emil W. Henry, Jr., founder and Managing Partner of Tiger Infrastructure Partners, added, “We are excited to partner with this superior management team to offer an innovative transportation solution to customers. Our investment in TCX fits Tiger Infrastructure Partners’ strategy of investing in businesses that need growth capital. We find that many of these businesses are outside the focus of both traditional infrastructure funds and private equity investors.”
