Starwood founder invests in HotelTonight

Barry Sternlicht, founder, chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group, has invested an undisclosed amount in HotelTonight, maker of an app to help users with last-minute hotel bookings. As part of the funding, Sternlicht has joined HotelTonight as a strategic advisor. In less than three years, San Francisco-based HotelTonight has raised more than $80 million in funding from Battery Ventures, Accel Partners, U.S. Venture Partners, Coatue Management. GGV Capital and First Round Capital. It’s most recent round was a $45 million Series D in September, which it raised as part of its push to expand overseas.
