NEW YORK, Feb. 19, 2014 — /PRNewswire/ — Kapitall, the next generation investing platform, today announced it has raised $13 million from a group of new and existing investors. The new round of financing is led by Linden Venture Fund LLC and includes Bendigo Partners, an early investor and provider of services to Kapitall. In combination with previous funding, Kapitall has now raised nearly $25 million, as the startup continues its mission of making the world of investing accessible, fun, and rewarding for all. Kapitall will use the financing to develop new products, drive community growth, and push forward with its goal of becoming the investing platform of choice for young and modern investors.
Most of today’s online investing platforms are geared towards experienced, traditional traders. Kapitall is revolutionizing investing with a unique user experience that draws on game mechanics. The platform is visual, social, educational, and especially appealing to the 85 million-strong men and women of Generation Y. Now the largest population segment in the United States, these up and coming investors will be the beneficiaries of history’s largest generational transfer of wealth, estimated at more than $40 trillion.
The Kapitall community experienced record growth in 2013 and ended the year with more than 170,000 registered members. Today, members execute more than 15,000 real and virtual trades each month and have built over 115,000 portfolios tracking real and virtual assets in excess of $10.6 billion.
“We are excited to continue building on the momentum we have today,” said Kapitall CEO Jarrett Lilien. “Kapitall is a new investing platform that offers a unique learning and trading experience through game mechanics and a proprietary graphical user interface. Our revenue model is also disruptive in that we acquire, engage and profitably interact with emerging investors – individuals that the traditional firms don’t handle well. We want these investors and we have an experience tailor made for them.”
“We are impressed by Kapitall’s track record to date, and know the leadership team has a winning combination of expertise in investing, gaming and interactive design to spark a true revolution among emerging investors,” said Oksana Malysheva, Linden Venture Fund LLC. “We also see their platform and user experience as unique and disruptive in ways that can make online investing both educational and enjoyable for modern investors.”
