Private Ocean adds new owner

Private Ocean, a wealth management firm in San Rafael, Calif., is expanding its team by hiring Dr. Frederick E. Dopfel as an owner. Dopfel will also serve as co-chair of the firm’s investment committee with Dr. Frank Jones. Previously, Dopfel was managing director and head of client advisory at BlackRock.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dr. Frederick E. Dopfel has joined Marin County wealth management firm Private Ocean as an owner. He will serve as co-chair of the firm’s investment committee with Dr. Frank Jones. The move further deepens Private Ocean’s ability to provide thoughtful financial planning and sophisticated research to the firm’s clients.

ABOUT DR. FRED DOPFEL
Dr. Dopfel has worked as an investment professional in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 30 years. In addition to his role as co-chair of the investment committee at Private Ocean, he is also a professor in the School of Business and Leadership at Dominican University of California.
Fred is a recognized authority in the asset management industry. He has advised many of the world’s leading institutional investors on portfolio issues and solutions throughout Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas. Previously, he was managing director and head of client advisory at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager. Fred’s professional experience includes: corporate finance and strategy consulting to Fortune 500 companies; mergers & acquisitions for the financial services industry; reinsurance and alternative risk financing; venture capital; and, asset management advice for pensions, foundations, endowments, sovereign wealth funds and individual investors.
Dr. Dopfel holds a Ph.D. in Engineering – Economic Systems and an MS in Operations Research from Stanford University, and a BS in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has authored numerous papers on total-portfolio investment issues and solutions.
