PRESS RELEASE

February 5, 2014, San Diego, CA— San Diego-based TakeLessons (http://www.takelessons.com), an online marketplace that connects students of all ages with high quality, well-vetted instructors, today announced its acquisition of Chicago-based online lesson facilitator Betterfly.
The addition of Betterfly’s extensive user database of students and teachers now positions TakeLessons as the world’s most comprehensive in-person and online lesson facilitator, serving over 500,000 students and teachers located in over 4,000 cities nationwide.
Previously, TakeLessons focused primarily on music, academics and the performing arts. Today, TakeLessons appeals to a broader variety of interests, offering instruction in fitness, wellness, yoga, and nutrition; crafts and hobbies like knitting, crocheting, and baking; life and business coaching such as resume writing, public speaking, and relationship coaching; and beauty and style consulting.
Through its recent relationship with Google Helpouts and its acquisition of Betterfly, TakeLessons has strengthened its mission to enable aspiring students of all ages to keep their minds and bodies healthy, active, and inspired, by learning something they’ve always wanted to learn how to do; whether that’s playing the guitar, conversing in French, knitting a sweater, or passing their algebra exam.
“Our acquisition of Betterfly enables TakeLessons to better serve an expanded user base of teachers and students, with complementary areas of instruction and the addition of an online lesson platform,” said TakeLessons CEO Steven Cox. “Our goal at TakeLessons is to help providers make a better living doing what they love, and to inspire people by giving them the opportunity to learn from the best teachers in their field, regardless of location. Using TakeLessons, a consumer can now learn through a local instructor in over 4,000 cities across America, or pull out their mobile device and take a lesson online over lunch break. This acquisition ultimately enables TakeLessons to expand our reach, while making it simple for consumers to find their perfect instructor.”
