Wavepoint Ventures backs medical device startup Miret Surgical

Miret Surgical has raised $644,750 in financing. Wavepoint Ventures led the round. Based in Illinois, Miret Surgical is a medical device startup spun out of the Stanford University biodesign program.


Miret Surgical closed on a financing of $644,750, led by Wavepoint Ventures, to advance development of its proprietary laparoscopic surgical products. Miret Surgical, based in Illinois, was spun out of the Stanford Biodesign Program in 2010 by Kevin Chao MD, Tom Ruby PhD, Hattie Dong PhD, Christopher Pell MS, Bryan Duggan MS and Avi Roop. Prior to financing, Miret received grant support from the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance and the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation. The firm’s products in development aim to impact the invasiveness of standard surgical procedures while working to maintain economic and procedural parity with the current standard of care.
