Bain Capital-backed Bob’s Discount Furniture names new SVP of real estate

Bob’s Discount Furniture, which is backed by Bain Capital, said Thursday that it has hired Chris Day as senior vice president of real estate. Previously, Day worked at Coventry Real Estate Advisors where he served as senior vice president of retail services. Headquartered in Manchester, Conn., Bob’s Discount Furniture is a retailer of low-cost furnishings.

MANCHESTER, Conn. – May 16, 2014 – Bob’s Discount Furniture, a retailer of quality furniture and bedding at everyday low prices, today announced Chris Day as SVP of Real Estate. With more than 25 years of retail real estate management and private equity experience, Day will manage the significant expansion of the company’s discount furniture stores, including its newest location in Freehold, N.J. Day was most recently SVP, Retail Services with New York-based Coventry Real Estate Advisors, an independent retail real estate investment management firm.
“As we continue to grow beyond our current 50 stores, we look for qualified leaders to join our dynamic team,” said Ted English, CEO of Bob’s Discount Furniture. “With an impressive track record of successful retail development for some of the biggest retailers in the U.S., Chris is uniquely qualified to lead this expansion and we’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Day was previously SVP, Real Estate with The Sports Authority where he developed and managed the real estate department for the chain’s more than 400 sites nationwide. He is credited with annual new store growth of 24 to 40 locations throughout the country. Earlier in his career he was Director, Real Estate with Bed Bath & Beyond, Sony/Loews Theatres, and Staples, Inc. He began his retail and commercial real estate career with Cushman & Wakefield. Day earned a BA in Economics from the University of Richmond.
