When Steve Rattner stepped down as auto czar earlier this week, Tim Geithner said the following: “Steven Rattner, whose leadership and vision were invaluable to the Auto Task Force’s efforts, has decided to transition back to private life and his family in New York City.”
Almost sounds as if he’d been just renting in DC, and that the Big Apple itch became unbearable. Except…
We’ve learned that Rattner bought a $4.35 million home in Washington D.C. just two months ago. Now why would you spend that much money – including more than $1 million up-front – if you weren’t planning a long-term stay? Sure it’s nice to have a summer place, but isn’t that why he’s building one on Martha’s Vineyard?
The answer, if course, is that Geithner was being disingenuous in his statement (although literally correct). Rattner’s resignation was sparked by increased heat from Andrew Cuomo, not from cravings for a slice of Famous Ray’s…

Its a far cry from this regal pile to peeling potatos with Bernie Madoff - but if Cuomo really wants to get elected NYS govenor then he’d better not just take another legal bribe but enforce the law and send someone to prison. Steve Rattner would be a great scalp to bag and a democrat (shows impartiality by Cuomo) to boot.

Always liked this style home. Is this considered ‘Federal’ style/design?

I rather doubt Steve loses any sleep over the loss of a few hundo on this joint. It’s sofa cushion change to him. Maybe Ron Bloom will buy it.

Wow, that GM vig sure pays off. Wonder if Bloom’s union take can put him up in a $4mm pad . . .

Cuomo shoud get tougher with anyone who engaged in pay for play. If it were you or me and not politically connected people like Rattner we would have already been indicted. Plus what about financing the guy’s film “Chooch”. If that is not a ribe?
