Advantage Capital Partners Awarded $75 Million Allocation in New Markets Tax Credits

New Orleans-based investment firm Advantage Capital Partners has been awarded $75 million by the New Markets Tax Credit program, bringing the total awards received by the firm since 2002 to roughly $600 million. The New Markets Tax Credit program was established by Congress 13 years ago to increase investing in low-income communities; it  allows individuals and companies to get tax credit against federal income taxes in exchange for equity investments in community development entities.

QuaDPharma has secured $1 million financing from Rand Capital SBIC and Advantage Capital Partners. QuaDPharma manufactures and tests small-batch pharmaceuticals. The funds will be used to expand and market the commercial capabilities of the business.

Scott Murphy has rejoined Advantage Capital Partners as chief investment officer. Murphy recently served as a U.S. Congressman where he represented New York’s 20th Congressional District from 2009-2011. Before that, Murphy worked at Advantage, a VC and small business finance form, from 2001 to 2009.

BinOptics Closes $13.3M

Ithaca-based BinOptics Corp., a maker of lasers and monolithically integrated optoelectronic components, has raised $13.3 million in new funding. New investors Advantage Capital Partners, Enhanced Capital Partners, Gefinor Ventures, Onondaga Venture Capital Fund and Rand Capital participated in the round, as did existing shareholders ArrowPath Venture Partners, Cayuga Venture Fund, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and FA Technology Ventures.
