Spin Transfer Technologies Names Barry Hoberman Chairman and CEO

Spin Transfer Technologies, a Freemont, Calif.-based maker of MRAM (Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory) technology, has appointed Barry Hoberman as CEO and board chairman. Hoberman joins the firm from the semiconductor company Crocus Technology, where he was chief marketing officer.

John Serafini will join Boston-based investment firm Allied Minds, which focuses on commercializing early-stage technologies. Serafini has spent four years as a principal with Good Harbor Consulting, where he worked with Richard Clarke, the former senior White House Advisor. There, Serafini worked as a venture capital/growth equity investor.

Allied Minds Backs Precision Biopsy With $2.5M

Precision Biopsy has closed on $2.5 million from Allied Minds. The funding will help the company with the commercialization phase of its novel prostate cancer detection technology. Precision Biopsy was formed Allied Minds in cooperation with the University of Colorado. Allied Minds is a private equity-funded innovation company with offices in Boston and Los Angeles.

RF Biocidics Inks $10M from Allied Minds, Invesco

Boston-based Allied Minds led a $10 million round for RF Biocidics Inc., a company that manufactures chemical-free treatment equipment and systems designed to eliminate food related pathogens, pests, and fungi. Existing shareholder Invesco Asset Management Ltd. also contributed to the round, which will be used to expand the company’s proprietary pasteurization and disinfestation businesses.

SciFluor Life Sciences Closes $5M First Round

SciFluor Life Sciences has raised $5 million from Allied Minds. The first round of funding is designed to support commercialization of its technology to enable late-stage fluorination of pharmaceutical drug candidates and other commercial chemicals. The company’s technology is based on technology developed by Harvard professor Tobias Ritter and his colleagues in the school’s department of chemistry and chemical biology. Allied Minds is a private equity-funded company with offices in Boston and Los Angeles.
