Ampersand Capital Partners, a healthcare-focused, middle market private equity firm, has made three appointments to its management team. Eric Lev has joined Ampersand as a partner, Dana Niles has joined Ampersand as the firm’s CFO and chief compliance officer and John Perkins has joined as an operating partner.

Ampersand Capital Partners said Monday that Eric Lev has joined as a partner, while Dana Niles was named CFO and Chief Compliance Officer. John Perkins also joined Ampersand as an operating partner. Lev was most recently at Water Street Healthcare Partners where he served on their investment team. Niles previously was CFO of HighPoint Capital. And Perkins was a senior executive at Talecris Biotherapeutics, an Ampersand portfolio company.

Willow Laboratories, based in Lynn, Mass., has been acquired by Ampersand Capital Partners. Willow is a clinical and forensic toxicology laboratory that provides urine, hair, and saliva testing services to a wide range of healthcare providers, including treatment centers. Ampersand is a Boston-based, middle market private equity firm. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Helix Medical has acquired MedVenture Technology Corp. Financial terms weren’t announced. The seller was Ampersand Capital Partners. MedVenture develops and manufactures minimally invasive surgical devices and catheter-based devices for medical device companies.

Medical device company Smith & Nephew has launched a spinoff in Durham, N.C., called Bioventus. The company was formerly Smith & Nephew’s biologics division.Private equity firms Essex Woodlands, Pantheon Ventures, Spindletop Healthcare Capital, Alta Capital Partners, Ampersand Capital Partners, and White Pine Medical, are investing $118M to acquire 51% of Bioventus.
