NanoH2O, a manufacturer of cost effective reverse osmosis membranes for seawater desalination, has appointed global operations veteran, Doug Barnes as chief operating officer. The business is backed by Oak Investment Partners, Khosla Ventures, BASF Venture Capital, Total Energy Ventures International and Keytone Ventures.

BASF Venture Capital is investing $5 million in Solidia Technologies as part of a $27 million financing round. The current round of financing also includes Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, BP Ventures and Bright Capital, the venture arm of RU-COM Corporation. Luca Technologies, a Golden, Colo.-based producer of sustainable nature gas, is eyeing its next fundraise after deploying much of the $100 million it has previously amassed from investors.
