Camden Partners leads financing round for Capital Payments

BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners, managed by Sandbox Industries, has joined venture investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Camden Partners in a $70 million investment in Essence Group Holdings Corp. In July, Essence Group, which provide collaboration, reimbursement, clinical informatics and information technology services for healthcare companies, announced a $61 million infusion from Camden Partners and Kleiner Perkins. Most of the new capital will be invested in EGHC’s subsidiary Lumeris Corp., which is focused on software and services for accountable health care delivery systems.

Essence Group Holdings Corp., a company with subsidiaries including Essence Healthcare, ClearPractice and Lumeris, has raised $61 million from investors including Camden Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Essence Group’s products provide collaboration, reimbursement, clinical informatics and information technology services for healthcare companies.

Camden Partners, the Baltimore, Md.-based private equity firm, announced Thursday its managing member Christopher Kersey will join the Johns Hopkins Medicine International Board as Chairman. Johns Hopkins Medicine International is the global development arm of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Shane Ho Kim, a managing member of growth equity firm Camden Partners, has joined the board of publicly traded Planet Payment. The company provides international multi-currency payment and data processing services. At Camden Partners, Kim focuses on payments and transaction processing investments within the business services and healthcare sectors. Planet Payment is headquartered in New York.

MinSec Holdings Inc., a Wallingford, Penn.-based operator of community correctional facilities, outpatient programs and behavioral health treatment facilities, has raised an undisclosed amount of private equity and subordinated debt funding from Camden Partners and NewSpring Capital. The deal is structured as a recapitalization.
