GGV Capital leads $13.5 mln Series A funding in FlightCar

GGV Capital has led a $13.5 million Series A funding in FlightCar, a peer-to-peer car sharing service operating at airports. Other participants in the funding include General Catalyst, SoftBank Capital and First Round Capital. Comcast Ventures and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin also invested. FlightCar has raised a total of $20 million to date, making co-founders Rujul Zaparde, 19, and Kevin Petrovic, 20, among the youngest entrepreneurs to have raised such large amounts of venture capital.

Kleiner Perkins leads $106 mln round in big data company DataStax

DataStax, which provides a big data platform built on Apache Cassandra, has raised a $106 million Series E round of funding in what is likely a pre-IPO round. The round was led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Joining the round are ClearBridge Investments, Cross Creek Advisors, Wasatch Funds, PremjiInvest and Comcast Ventures. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company has now raised $190 million in total funding, including a $45 million Series D round in July 2013.

Windsor Circle bags $5.25 mln Series B

Windsor Circle has closed $5.25 million in Series B funding. Comcast Ventures, the venture capital affiliate of Comcast Corp. led the round with participation from IDEA Fund Partners, Triangle Angel Partners and Steve Case. Based in Durham, NC Windsor Circle is a provider of customer retention solutions.


Axial racks up $11 mln Series B

Axial said Tuesday that it has secured $11 million in Series B funding. Comcast Ventures led the round with participation from previous backers Redpoint Ventures and First Round. Headquartered in New York City, Axial is a professional network comprised of members who run, advise and fund private firms.


Burch Creative Capital leads Series B round for BaubleBar

BaubleBar has closed $10 million in Series B funding. Burch Creative Capital led the round with participation from Aspect Ventures, Triplepoint Ventures, Comcast Ventures, Accel Partners and Greycroft Partners. Based in New York, BaubleBar is an online jewelry retailer.


Comcast Ventures and Iris Capital back Quantifind

Quantifind has received $12 million in finding. Comcast Ventures and Iris Capital led the round. Based in Menlo Park, Calif., Quantifind is a tech firm that helps brands understand and identify which customer segments are impacting business outcomes.


Comcast Ventures backs Bay Dynamics

Bay Dynamics said Tuesday that it has closed $8 million in Series A funding from Comcast Ventures, the venture capital affiliate of Comcast Corp. Based in San Francisco, Bay Dynamics is a provider of information risk intelligence.

Tastemade snags $25 mln Series C

Santa Monica, Calif.-based digital media startup Tastemade said Thursday that it has raised $25 million in Series C funding. Scripps Networks Interactive led the round with participation from Liberty Media, Redpoint Ventures, Raine Ventures and Comcast Ventures.


Corporate venture investing rebounds: VCJ

Corporate venture investing rebounded solidly in the first quarter with activity shifting to big-dollar expansion and later-stage deals, according to affiliate publication Venture Capital Journal. The quarter is the fourth in a row of heightened corporate participation in venture deal making.


LeadiD raises Series A

LeadiD has raised $7 million in Series A funding from Comcast Ventures and Tribeca Venture Partners. Genacast Ventures, which led LeadiD’s seed funding, also participated in this round. Founded in January 2011, LeadiD provides an open technology platform that enables the tracking of origin and history for lead-generation events online.


Quad Learning garners $10 mln

Quad Learning said Tuesday that it has secured $10 million in Series B funding. The investors included MentorTech Ventures, ECMC Group, SWaN & Legend Fund, New Atlantic Ventures, CNF Investments, New Enterprise Associates and Comcast Ventures. In addition to the funding, Joe Del Guercio of CNF Investments has been added to Quad Learning’s board. Based in Washington, D.C., Quad Learning works with community colleges to offer honors programs to students.

VC-backed Nebula hires SVP of engineering

Nebula has hired Herb Schneider as senior vice president of engineering. Schneider was the co-founder of GridIron and Extreme Networks. Based in Mountain View, Calif., Nebula is a private cloud company. Its backers include Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Comcast Ventures and Highland Capital Partners.

Comcast Ventures leads SundaySky’s Series C

SundaySky, which provides video advertising services, has raised $20 million in a Series C investment round that was led by Comcast Ventures. Others in the round include Liberty Global Ventures, Vintage Investment Partners and existing investors Carmel Ventures, Globespan Capital Partners and Norwest Venture Partners. The company previously raised $17 million in funding, including a $9 million Series B round in 2010. As part of the recent round, Andrew Cleland, managing director of Comcast Ventures, has joined the board.
