WellTok Raises $18.7M From Emergence, InterWest, NEA

WellTok, Inc. said it closed an $18.7 million Series B funding with  Emergence Capital Partners and InterWest Partners co-leading the round and New Enterprise Associates joining the funding. The company also appointed Executive Chairman Jeff Margolis to chief executive officer. Margolis founded TriZetto.

Quasar Ventures Launches With $5.4M From Emergence, Others

Quasar Ventures said it has begun operations with $5.4 million in investment capital from a group of investors led by Emergence Capital Partners. The firm will follow a strategy that varies dramatically from an incubator. It plans to use its capital to develop 10 new technology companies globally in the coming four years. The firm is led by former Officenet executives Andy Freire, Santiago Bilinkis and Pablo Simón Casarino.

Emergence Names Wagonfeld As Operating Partner

Emergence Capital Partners said it appointment Alison Berkley Wagonfeld operating partner. She will work with portfolio companies and help them with recruiting and talent management. Wagonfeld previously was executive director of Harvard Business School’s California Research Center in Menlo Park and before that co-founded QuickenLoans at Intuit.


Distributions From Venture Funds Spike

Venture capital returns creep ahead in fits and starts. Distributions to LPs, however, have gone through the roof. In the third quarter of 2012, they hit their highest level since 2001, and they look poised to go higher in the fourth quarter and beyond.

ServiceMax Inks $27 Million New Funding

ServiceMax, a provider of cloud-based, mobile and social field service applications has secured $27 million series D investment led by Crosslink Capital. Also participating in the round were Emergence Capital Partners, Mayfield Fund and Trinity Ventures. ServiceMax has raised $52 million to date.

Bill.com Adds $15.5M Series D

Bill payment and online invoicing company Bill.com has added $15.5 million in Series D financing. New investor Financial Partners Fund, a unit of Citi Capital Advisors, participated in the round, as did existing investors DCM, Emergence Capital Partners, August Capital, Jafco Ventures and Total Technology Ventures. The company is based in Palo Alto, Calif., and will use the money to expand operations, continue product development and for marketing efforts.

Lithium Adds Tarkoff as CEO

Rob Tarkoff has been named CEO of Lithium Technologies, the e-commerce and marketing company, replacing Lyle Fong. Tarkoff comes from Adobe Systems, where he served as senior VP and GM of digital enterprise solutions; Fong will move to a chief strategist role—he was also a co-founder with the company. VCs backing Lithium include Shasta, Emergence Capital, Benchmark, Tenaya and DAG.

JanRain, the provider of social identity management solutions for businesses, collected $15.5 million from investors including Anthem Venture Partners, DFJ Frontier, RPM Ventures, Tim Draper, and founder Larry Drebes with participation from Square 1 Bank. Emergence Capital Partners led the funding round. The company counts MTV, Tribune Co. and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group among its clients.
