Taris Biomedical Raises $12.5 Million

Taris Biomedical, a specialty pharmaceutical company developing therapies to treat bladder diseases, has raised a fresh $12.5 million in funding from its existing investors, Flagship Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, Polaris Partners, and Third Rock Ventures. With the new funding, Taris, based in Lexington, Mass., has raised $49.8 million altogether.

Sample6 Technologies Hires Tim Curran as CEO

Sample6 Technologies, a Boston-based developer of a so-called bacterial monitoring platform, has appointed Tim Curran as CEO. Curran was previously CEO of Vela Systems, which sold to Autodesk last year; he was also CEO of Eleven Technologies, acquired by Trimble Navigation in 2006. Sample6 is backed by Flybridge Capital Partners, Chevron Tech Ventures, The Kraft Group, Founder Collective and Boston University, among others.

Online Payments Startup Plastiq Raises Fresh $6M

Plastiq, a Boston-based online payments company, has raised $6 million in financing. The round was led by Atlas Venture and Flybridge Capital Partners and also included investors in an earlier, $2.3 million financing sewn up last spring. Those other investors include NextView Ventures, Greenoaks Capital Management and individual investors such as Harvey Golub, the former chairman and CEO of American Express.

DataXu Raises $27M From Thomvest, Flybridge, Atlas, Menlo

DataXu said it raised $27 million in a round of financing led by Thomvest Ventures and joined by existing investors Atlas Venture, Flybridge Capital Partners and Menlo Ventures. Thomvest Managing Director Stefan Clulow joins DataXu’s board.
