Cendana Has Final Close On Institutional Seed Fund Of Funds

Cendana Capital announced the final close of a pair of seed-based fund of funds on Friday. The institutional seed investor now has raised $88.2 million and taken a position with nine investment partnerships. The final close announced Friday in a document filed with Securities and Exchange Commission was on $28.2 million raised by Cendana Capital L.P.

Sample6 Technologies Hires Tim Curran as CEO

Sample6 Technologies, a Boston-based developer of a so-called bacterial monitoring platform, has appointed Tim Curran as CEO. Curran was previously CEO of Vela Systems, which sold to Autodesk last year; he was also CEO of Eleven Technologies, acquired by Trimble Navigation in 2006. Sample6 is backed by Flybridge Capital Partners, Chevron Tech Ventures, The Kraft Group, Founder Collective and Boston University, among others.

Getable Closes Second Funding Round

Getable has closed a second financing, totaling $1.8 million. This brings total funding for the company to $3.2 million. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Founder Collective, Promus Ventures and Chris Sacca of Lowercase Capital.

Infinio Inks $10m from Highland Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners

Infinio (formerly known as SilverLining Systems) has closed a $10 million Series A investment from Highland Capital Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners, bringing total funding to date to $12 million. The firms join earlier investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Cambridge’s Founder Collective, the NYC Seed Fund, and a group of angel investors. As part of the financing, Highland’s Sean Dalton and Bessemer’s Felda Hardymon have joined the company’s board of directors.

Blue Box Brings Series A Total To MoreThan $4.3M

Blue Box said it added to its Series A funding, bringing the round to a total of more than $4.3 million. The company in October announced a first closing on $3.5 million in a deal led by Voyager Capital. Founder Collective led the secondary closing.

Kawola Joins Harvest Automation as CEO

Harvest Automation, a company developing practical robots for the agriculture industry, has appointed John Kawola as CEO. Current CEO Charles Grinnell will assume the role of COO. Backed by Entrée Capital, Founder Collective, Life Sciences Partners, Cultivian Ventures, and Massachusetts Technology Development Corporation, Harvest Automation is headquartered outside of Boston, Mass.

Though the cat was basically out of the bag by Saturday, the news is now official: Andreessen Horowitz, the firm founded in 2009 by Ben Horowitz and Marc Andreessen, has hired Chris Dixon as its newest partner. In a twist, though, the New York entrepreneur and investor is moving to California.

Bill Trenchard Joins First Round Capital as Partner in San Francisco

 Bill Trenchard has joined the early-stage venture capital firm First Round Capital as a partner. Trenchard, who informally joined First Round in June, was previously investing on behalf of the early-stage, entrepreneur-led venture capital fund Founder Collective. Before becoming an investor, Trenchard was a founder at CallCast (which was later merged to form LiveOps) and Jump Networks (acquired by Microsoft).

Ancestry.com Purchases 1000memories

Online family history resource Ancestry.com has acquired San Francisco-based startup 1000memories. Founded in 2010, 1000memories makes it easy to digitize and share photos and stories from the past. The business was funded by angel and institutional investors, including Greylock Partners, Y Combinator, SV Angel, Founder Collective, and Lowercase Capital.
