Just Do It, Says Yahoo’s Teen App Millionaire

(Reuters) – Got a tech idea and want to make a fortune before you’re out of your teens? Just do it, is the advice of the London schoolboy who’s just sold his smartphone news app to Yahoo for a reported $30 million. The money is there, just waiting for clever new moves, said 17-year-old Nick D’Aloisio, who can point to a roster of early backers for his Summly app that includes Horizons Ventures, a venture capital firm owned by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing, Yoko Ono and Rupert Murdoch.

Frank Meehan from Asian VC Firm Horizons Joins Bitcasa

Fixmo Inks $23M Series C

Paladin Capital Group led a $23 million Series C round for mobile risk management company Fixmo Inc. Horizons Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers also joined in the round as new investors; existing investors and management all participated in the round, the company announced Monday. Fixmo is based in Sterling, Va.

Magisto Inks $5.5M for Cloud-based Video Editing

San Francisco-based Magisto has closed on $5.5 million in financing from Horizons Ventures and Magma Venture Partners. The company provides a free, web-based video editing service. Horizons led the Series B round. Magma was a previous investor in the company’s 2010 first round.
