AltspaceVR raises seed funds

AltspaceVR, a social platform for virtual reality, has raised $5.2 million in seed funding. Investors include Dolby Family Ventures, Formation 8, Google Ventures, Lux Capital, Foundation Capital, Rothenberg Ventures, SV Angel, Haystack Fund, Tencent, Raine Ventures, Promus Ventures, Western Technology Investment and others.

DCM leads Series B round for Matterport

Matterport said Monday that it has closed $16 million in Series B financing. DCM Ventures led the round with participation from AME Cloud Ventures. Other investors include Lux Capital, Felicis Ventures, Greylock Partners, Navitas Capital, AMD Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures and Rothenberg Ventures. Based in Mountain View, Calif., Matterport develops cloud-based 3D models of interior spaces.

Siluria Technologies has promoted Rahul Iyer to vice president of corporate development and Gary Koehler to vice president of operations. Siluria is a company that converts natural gas into chemicals and fuels. It is backed by ARCH Venture Partners, The Wellcome Trust, Alloy Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Bright Capital, Altitude Life Science Ventures, Lux Capital and Vulcan Capital.

3D printing company SOLS Systems raises $6.4 mln

SOLS Systems, a maker of 3D printing technology focused on orthotics, has announced it has raised a $6.4 million round of funding led by Lux Capital. Also participating in the Series A round is new investor Founders Fund as well as existing investors RRE Ventures, Rothenberg Ventures, Felicis Ventures, FundersGuild and Grape Arbor VC. The New York-based company has now raised just over $8.1 million in total funding since it was launched in 2013.

Kala Pharmaceuticals scores $22.5 mln

Kala Pharmaceuticals said Wednesday that it has closed $22.5 million in Series B financing. Ysios Capital led the round with participation from Crown Venture Fund, Lux Capital, Polaris Partners and Third Rock Ventures. In addition to the funding, Dr. Karen Wagner, a general partner at Ysios Capital, has been added to Kala’s board of directors. Based in Waltham, Mass., Kala Pharmaceuticals is a developer of treatments for ocular diseases.

Visterra closes Series A

Visterra, a developer of novel therapeutics to prevent and treat major infectious diseases, has secured $8.1 million in the final closing of its Series A financing round. This financing brings the total proceeds received to date from Series A to $34.2 million. Existing investors – Polaris Venture Partners, Flagship Ventures, Lux Capital, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Omega Funds – participated in the financing, as well as members of management and employees.

Kymeta Closes $50m Series C

Kymeta Corporation has closed a $50 million Series C financing to accelerate the company’s growth plans. Kymeta designs and manufactures satellite communication antennas and systems. Existing Kymeta investors including Bill Gates, Lux Capital and Liberty Global were joined in the financing by Osage University Partners and The Kresge Foundation.

Lux Capital Closes Third Fund At $245M

Lux Capital said it has raised a third fund of $245 million, a step up from its second fund of about $100 million. The firm said the new fund was oversubscribed and exceeded its initial $200 million target.
