Lux Capital Closes Third Fund At $245M

Lux Capital said it has raised a third fund of $245 million, a step up from its second fund of about $100 million. The firm said the new fund was oversubscribed and exceeded its initial $200 million target.

Lux Capital has promoted three, naming Adam Kalish general partner; Shahin Farshchi principal; and Zack Schildhorn vice president and director of operations. Kalish joined the firm in 2005, and worked previously as a director at Everest Capital. Farshchi has worked with Lux Capital since 2006, focusing on investments in energy and technology. Schildhorn has worked with Lux since 2006, focusing on operations and investments within energy, novel materials and technologies at the intersection of the digital and physical worlds.

Siluria Technologies Closes on $20M

Siluria Technologies, a San Francisco-based developer of methane-based alternatives for producing fuels and chemicals normally derived from oil, has raised $20 million in new capital. The Series B round was led by UK-based Wellcome Trust, with participation from Alloy Ventures, ARCH Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Altitude Life Science Ventures, Lux Capital, and Presidio Ventures.

Transphorm Seals $25M Series D

Transphorm Inc. has closed a $25 million Series D financing round from Quantum Strategic Partners Ltd., a private investment fund managed by Soros Fund Management, and existing investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Google Ventures, Foundation Capital and Lux Capital. The latest round brings Transphorm’s total funding to $63 million. The company, which launched in February, will use the money to continue development of its compact power conversion technology.
