Venture firm Lux Capital has added James Woolsey and Richard Foster as venture partners. Woolsey will help the firm identify investment opportunities in energy that offer significant economic and environmental benefits. Foster will focus on new technologies and business models for Life Sciences and healthcare IT investment, the firm said in a statement. Woolsey is chairman of Woolsey Partners; he also currently chairs the Strategic Advisory Group of the Washington, D.C. private equity fund, Paladin Capital Group. Foster is managing partner of Investment and Advisory Services. He was previously a director and senior partner with McKinsey & Co., where he co-founded the healthcare and private equity practices.

Transphorm Inc. emerged from stealth on Wednesday with a $20 million Series C round led by Google Ventures. The round was joined by existing investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Foundation Capital and Lux Capital, bringing the company’s funding to $38 million. Guilford, Conn.-based online advertising start-up uKnow has raised roughly half of a planned $1 million funding round, according to a filing with the SEC.
