Principia Biopharma nabs $50 mln Series B funds

Principia Biopharma has raised $50 million in Series B financing. Sofinnova Ventures led the round with participation from investors that include Morgenthaler Ventures, New Leaf Venture Partners, OrbiMed, SR One and Mission Bay Capital. In addition to the financing, Dr. Srinivas Akkaraju, a general partner at Sofinnova Ventures, has been added to Principia Biopharma’s board of directors. Based in South San Francisco, Principia Biopharma is focused on developing small molecule drugs within the fields of autoimmune disease and oncology.

H.I.G. BioVentures leads Series C round for ForSight VISION5

ForSight VISION5 has closed $15 million in Series C financing. H.I.G. BioVentures led the round with participation from previous backers Morgenthaler Ventures, Versant Ventures, Technology Partners and Delphi Ventures. Concurrent with the funding, Aaron Davidson of H.I.G. BioVentures has been added to ForSight VISION5′s board of directors. Based in Menlo Park, Calif., ForSight VISION5 focuses on developing products that replace eye drops.

Vapotherm bags $24 mln

Vapotherm has raised $24 million in financing. Gilde Healthcare Partners led the round with participation from investors that included Adage Capital Management, 3×5 Special Opportunity Fund, Morgenthaler Ventures, QuestMark Partners and Cross Creek Capital. Morgenthaler Ventures announces winners of the DC to VC 2013

Morgenthaler Ventures has announced the winners of DC to VC’s HIT Startup Showcase, a contest that identifies promising health IT startups seeking funding. After eight on-stage presentations in front of venture capitalists, angel investors, government officials and entrepreneurs, the judges selected Amplify Health as the winner of the enterprise solutions category and Kinsa as the winner of the consumer solutions category.

Convo raises $5 mln from Morgenthaler

Cloud-based collaboration service provider Convo has raised $5 million in a Series A funding round from Morgenthaler Ventures. The San Francisco-based company, formerly known as Scyrbe, had previously raised seed funding from Adobe, LMKR and angel investors. As part of the Series A, Morgenthaler Managing Director Rebecca Lynn and Venture Partner Alex Nigg have joined the board. Morgenthaler said that its investment in Convo is the last new IT deal from its ninth fund.

OpenView Venture Partners Leads Socrata B Round

Socrata, a cloud software company has closed an $18 million Series B round of financing led by OpenView Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors Morgenthaler Ventures and Frazier Technology Partners. Scott Maxwell, OpenView’s senior managing director and founder, will join Socrata’s board of directors.

NEA Leads $37M Round in MuleSoft

MuleSoft, which provides enterprises with a cloud-based platform to integrate its mobile and on-premise data and applications, has raised $37 million in new funding. New Enterprise Associates lead the round, with participation from Salesforce.com, as well as returning investors Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, Morgenthaler Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, SAP Ventures and Bay Partners. The company has now raised about $81 million in capital since 2006.
