BlackArrow Adds Michael Pohl to Board

Venture-backed BlackArrow has added Michael Pohl to its board. BlackArrow develops advertising products for television platforms. Pohl currently serves as a director for Ascent Media, and is chairman of the board of directors of BigBand Networks. Pohl served recently as CEO of Jinni Ltd, a search and recommendation service for video content. BlackArrow is backed by Cisco Systems, Comcast Interactive Capital, Intel Capital, Mayfield Fund, Motorola Ventures, NDS Group and Polaris Venture Partners.

Motorola VC Arm Aims to Cultivate New Tech

Motorola Solutions Inc., via its investment arm Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, is planning to invest in at least five more start-up companies in 2011. The firm, formerly known as Motorola Ventures, manages 20 portfolio companies currently. It the coming months, it will focus on investments in mobile computing, cloud computing, video and video analytics, retail experiences and analytics, RFID-enabled solutions and security, the firm said in a release.

Cleversafe Seals $31.4 Million in Series C Financing

Chicago-based cloud storage company Cleversafe has raised $31.4 million in an extended Series C funding round. Venture investors include Chicago-based OCA Ventures; Sunnyside, Calif.-based Motorola Ventures; and Menlo Park, Calif.-based New Enterprise Associates. The company will use the money in part to expand marketing of its dispersed storage platform.

Motorola Backs Scanbuy

Scanbuy Inc., a New York-based provider of mobile barcode solutions, has raised an undisclosed amount of third-round funding. Motorola Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Longworth Venture Partners, Masthead Venture Partners and Hudson Venture Partners. The company had raised a $9 million Series B round in 2006.
