Insight Venture Partners has agreed to buy Quest Software for about $2 billion, or $23 a share. The stock owned by Chairman and CEO Vinny Smith will be rolled over into the surviving entity. Ignition Partners led a $20 million Series C round for cloud identity technology company Symplified. As a result, Cameron Myhrvold of Ignition Partners has joined its board of directors. Existing investors Allegis Capital, Granite Ventures and Quest Software also participated in the financing, which brings the company’s total funding to $38.8 million.

Jaspersoft, a maker of business intelligence software, has inked $11 million in a round of venture capital led by Red Hat and SAP Ventures. New investor Quest Software joined in the round, which also included participation from existing shareholders Doll Capital Management, Morgenthaler Ventures, Partech International, Scale Venture Partners, and Adams Street Partners. The money will be used for expansion and potential acquisitions. Jaspersoft is based in San Francisco.

Boulder-based Symplified, which sells cloud security tools, is welcoming former Netscape executives Taher Elgamal and Todd Rulon-Miller to its advisory board. Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT) has agreed to acquire Surgient Inc., an Austin, Texas-based provider of private cloud automation software. No financial terms were disclosed. Surgient has raised around $100 million in VC funding, from Austin Ventures, Crosslink Capital, Goldman Sachs, BlueStream Ventures, Seaport Capital, Sternhill Partners, Rod Canion, Reed Hundt, Tom Merideth and Bill Joy.
