Avaya Acquires Sipera Systems

Avaya, a Basking Ridge, N.J.-based communications system provider, has acquired Sipera Systems, itself a provider of unified communications (UC) security solutions. Sipera, which had raised venture funding over the years from S3 Ventures, Austin Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Duchossois Technology Partners and Star Ventures will be fully integrated into Avaya. Kimbia Closes $4M in VC

S3 Ventures led a $4 million venture round for Austin, Texas-based Kimbia Inc., a maker of Web-based fundraising and event management software. Previously, the company was backed by its founders and angel investors. S3 Ventures is a group of entrepreneurs focusing on early stage investments in the Southwest, especially Texas.

Digby Inks $8M Series C

Austin-based mobile commerce start-up Digby has raised $8 million in Series C financing. Battery Ventures led the round, which included funding from BlackBerry Partners Fund, S3 Ventures and Daylight Partners. Digby focuses on mobile commerce products for retailers, and will use the money to bolster sales, marketing, research and platform development.

Sipera Systems Raises $10 Million

Sipera Systems Inc., a Richardson, Texas-based provider of real-time unified communications enablement and security, today announced that it has raised $10 million in Series C funding. S3 Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Austin Ventures, Duchossois Technology Partners, Sequoia Capital and STAR Ventures. The company previously raised $30 million.
