Big Data Company DataStax Raises $45M Series D

DataStax, which provides a big data platform built on Apache Cassandra, has raised $45 million in Series D funding. The round was led by Scale Venture Partners with participation from existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Crosslink Capital and Meritech Capital Partners and new investors DFJ Growth and Next World Capital. The company has now raised about $110 million in total funding since it was founded in early 2010.

VC Fundraising Slows in Q2

U.S. venture capital firms raised just under $3 billion in the second quarter, with more than half of the money going to five established VCs, according to a report from the National Venture Capital Association and Thomson Reuters.

PeopleMatter Raises $19M, Led by Scale Venture Partners

PeopleMatter, a Charleston, S.C.-based maker of HR software, has raised $19 million in Series B funding, led by Scale Venture Partners, whose partner, Rob Theis, has joined the board. Previous PeopleMatter investors Intersouth Partners, Morgenthaler Ventures, Harbert Venture Partners, Noro-Moseley Partners, C&B Capital and Silicon Valley Bank also contributed to the funding.

Software testing company uTest has closed a $17 million Series D round led by QuestMark Partners, with participation from previous Scale Venture Partners, Longworth Venture Partners, Egan-Managed Capital and Mesco Ltd., the company announced Monday. uTest, based in Boston, has raised a total of $37 million since it was formed in 2007.
