WhipTail, a Whippany, N.J.-based flash based storage company, has raised a $31 million Series C round of funding from SanDisk, Ignition Partners, RRE Ventures and Spring Mountain Capital. Silicon Valley Bank provided debt financing and the company said an unnamed Silicon Valley industry titan also invested.

NewWorld Capital Group has acquired Cleaire Advanced Emission Controls, a maker of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides abatement products. Investors Ingleside Investors, North Sky Capital and Spring Mountain Capital also participated in the deal. Terms were not released. Cleaire is headquartered in San Leandro, Calif. with a manufacturing facility in San Diego. The company’s products are used by on-road and off-road heavy-duty diesel-powered vehicles.

Investment management firm Spring Mountain Capital has added Avi Faliks and Jamie Weston as managing directors in its private equity business. Both will work on sourcing, selecting, and managing its private equity investments. Faliks previously founded Vertex Capital Management, a firm focused on distressed consumer companies that were restructured, rebuilt, and sold to strategic investors. Earlier, Faliks was the co-founder and managing director of hedge fund Apex Capital Management. Weston was previously a partner at Wicks Group, a private equity firm with close to $1 billion under management. Spring Mountain Capital is based in New York.

New York-based Spring Mountain Capital has become the lead investor in Culver City, Calif.-based digital media company NXTM LLC. No terms of the investment were disclosed. NXTM provides musicians tools to build, manage and monetize their online digital presence, and has worked with musicians including Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, the company said in a statement.

WhipTail Technologies said Monday that it has hired Daniel Crain as its CEO and that Spring Mountain Capital has provided it with convertible bridge financing. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Crain was most recently Brocade Communications’s chief tech officer. WhipTail is a Summit, N.J.-based software vendor. With the financing, Spring Mountain, a New York private investment firm, will have the option for a seat on WhipTail’s board.
