KP Does First (We Think) Water Deal

Kleiner Perkins has made what is believed to be its first water-related cleantech investment, peHUB has learned.

A partner at KP confirmed that the firm had invested in Applied Process Technology (APT), which makes water-remediation technology, but did not share the dollar amount or other details.

There are no other water-related companies listed among the 15 companies in the “Greentech” portfolio on KP’s website.

“There’s a lot of nitrates in water, most of it from agriculture [and] fertilizers,” the KP partner said. “About 4,000 wells in the [California] Central Valley alone are closed … We believe with this new remediation process—which is a bio-film, a live filter—we could open up  the vast majority of those and increase the water supply—not just in California, but nationwide.”

APT, which is based in Pleasant Hill, Calif., filed a document with the SEC in August 2007 showing that it had raised a little over $1 million of a targeted $8 million round. That document lists Kinetics Systems Inc., Rawson Investment and SEACOR Capital Corp. as beneficial owners of the privately held company.

APT has not yet filed a document with the SEC in connection with the investment from KP.

APT’s website says that the company has “raised over $10.5 million in equity funding to continue its commitment to developing truly innovative, cost-effective solutions to our client’s most difficult treatment needs.”

The website also notes that APT’s senior management team “is comprised of executives, engineers and scientists from the chemical, water, and environmental industries [who] collectively hold over 15 patents.”

An APT spokesperson said the company was holding off on making any comment about the KP investment until it received clearance from KP.

  • Hello American BLOGERs,
Rick W. White (R.C.I.A. Catholic here), a long retired construction General Engineering contractor, (& trying to my pay back some of the blessings that God has given me).
On my RWW “Heal the World!” WEB site, I’ve placed dozens of drawings that could implemented now.
I’ve sketched out no building permit required “Down-well”(s) (to recover waste rain water), & “no building permit required” steam recovery from homeowner 4” sewage vents, which if implemented, would increase U. S. manufacturing output & save millions of gallons of treated water every week! (If requested, I’ll send a PICTs via email (because my WEB site has more than 100 PICTs & engineering drawings on it!)
I’ve addressed that 350 mile wide island of floating P. V. C. trash in the Pacific Ocean with a series of 7 shop drawings that contemplates thermally re-forming the floating trash into beams for construction, (that solves the opposing beam tension/compression issue by bending double square re-enforcement steel rebar on each edge of said beam), & then enclosing the steel re-bar thermally within the finished beam.

I got severely whacked 8 years ago testing my Firecat invention, & after 14 weeks in a coma!, & spending nearly 6 months @ U. C. S. D. Med. Center (& Alvarado hospital), I had 30 months in a wheel chair (which I don’t need any more or a cane either), in which to contemplate ‘What I should do with the dozens of US patent disclosures (my talents in the Biblical sense) that I had officially disclosed’ to the US Patent & Trademarks office before I got hurt.

Realizing many of my ideas had been ‘inspired by God all Mighty’ I decided to disclose my ideas for free to everybody. I found a WEB site, @
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/18528672@N06/
I have disclosed more than 100 ideas that are just too good to ever patent, & it would my heart good if any U.S. entrepreneur would manufacture & market them!
The giant Black Widow spider lawn sculpture (in any open area (with secret Barn Owl nest within the cooler sized spider body) would extremely good for any suburban neighborhood to implement & I invite you to forward this email.

On my WEB site, you’ll see shop drawings which may inspire New Cal. businesses to pre-build window (& sliding door) insulation kit.
Regards, & May God continue 2 bless! Rick W. White
