SUPER HEAT Games today announced that the company has closed a $1.6 million Series A venture capital financing led by Diamond Ridge Ventures and DFJ Frontier. In connection with the financing, Josh Swartz, a general partner at Diamond Ridge, and Scott Lenet, a managing director at DFJ Frontier, will both join the company’s board of directors. The proceeds will be primarily used for the development, marketing, and sales of the company’s skateboard-themed collectible trading card game, SUPER HEAT Skateboard Trading Card Game, which is expected to be launched nationally on May 24. More information about SUPER HEAT Games and the trading card game is available at www.superheatgames.com.
“The action sports industry is one of the fastest growing youth segments in the U.S. We feel our SUPER HEAT Skateboard Trading Card Game will appeal to a rapidly emerging audience of action sports enthusiasts,” said Robert Reynolds, chief executive officer, SUPER HEAT Games. “We have passionately endeavored to build SUPER HEAT with integrity and authenticity. I am extremely proud to begin working with these investment professionals who will help strengthen SUPER HEAT Games as a company and a brand.”
“SUPER HEAT is a natural fit for our fund,” said Swartz. “Integrating action sports into the collectible playing cards space is a proposition with enormous potential, and we are already seeing this brand make an impression in the market, even prior to launch.”
“We have been extremely impressed with the SUPER HEAT team,” noted Lenet. “The company has delivered an incredible gaming platform, a critical mass of key athletes, and national distribution with the best possible partner. Every ingredient for success is in place.”
This news follows the February 2011 announcement that SUPER HEAT Games entered into a multi-year distribution partnership with trading card game company, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. Pursuant to that partnership, Konami will be the sole distributor of the SUPER HEAT Skateboard Trading Card Game throughout both North and Latin Americas.
