PRESS RELEASE:

BOSTON– Allied Minds, Inc., a technology capital investment firm focused on commercializing early-stage technologies from leading U.S. National Labs and Universities, today announced the appointment of John S. Serafini as Director of the firm’s National Labs Program. John is a recognized leader within the defense, security, and energy investment communities with more than ten years of experience as a venture capital investor, company executive, and consultant.
“John brings us a tremendous wealth of investing, industry, and particularly government experiences” said Chris Silva, Chief Executive Officer of Allied Minds. “His ability to identify attractive opportunities – especially within the high-growth sector of cybersecurity – and collaborate with national labs and government officials will help us significantly grow our National Labs program activities. Further, his background in technology, marketing, and business development will enhance our executive team and assist in the growth of our National Labs portfolio.”
John spent the past four years as a Principal at Good Harbor Consulting where he worked closely with Mr. Richard Clarke, a senior White House advisor to three U.S. Presidents. In this role, John served as a venture capital/growth equity investor, corporate board advisor, and M&A specialist focusing on cybersecurity with deep expertise in managing investments impacted by US national security regulations. During this time, John was also responsible for sourcing and overseeing numerous acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships for Good Harbor and its affiliated investment funds. He provided cybersecurity advisory services for governmental, commercial, and investment fund clients with homeland security investment interests. In addition to spinning off and incubating CyberPoint International LLC, a high-growth cybersecurity engineering and services company headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, John provided advisory and board services to a number of venture-capital backed cybersecurity firms, traveling between Boston, Washington, D.C. and the Middle East. A former U.S. Army infantry officer, John served six years in the 82d Airborne Division and the United Nations Command Security Battalion – Joint Security Area inside the Korean Demilitarized Zone.
“I’m excited to join Allied Minds for two distinct reasons,” stated John. “First, the company’s unique business model not only allows me to oversee investment in exciting opportunities, but also act as an entrepreneur building a startup. Second, Allied Minds’ desire to build its National Labs program, specifically in the area of national security, appeals greatly to my prior experiences in the U.S. military and the private sector. I look forward to making a positive impact in my new role.”
John earned a BS in English & Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an MBA from the Harvard Business School, and an MPA degree from the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government. John is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst and a Chartered Financial Analyst candidate.
