AppNexus, the world-leader in real-time advertising, today announced the appointment of two new board members who are widely known for their trailblazing contributions to the digital space, Brian McAndrews, the former CEO of aQuantive and Edwin J. Gillis, former executive advisor to Skype.

Prior to joining Madrona Venture Group, McAndrews was Senior Vice President at Microsoft Corporation, leading the Advertiser and Publisher Solutions (APS) Group from August 2007 through December 2008. McAndrews served as CEO of aQuantive Inc., one of the fastest-growing global digital marketing companies in the world, from 1999 to 2007. In August 2007, Microsoft acquired aQuantive for $6 billion.
McAndrews was named Advertising Age’s first-ever Digital Executive of the Year and was designated as one of the 30 most influential executives in the advertising, marketing and media world in Adweek’s 30th Anniversary issue.
“AppNexus is in an incredibly unique and enviable position as a market-leading ad technology solution that services both the buy and sell sides,” said Brian McAndrews. “I’ve been following their meteoric rise over the past couple of years and am looking forward to getting involved with their strategic direction as they move forward and grow.”
Gillis was an executive advisor at Skype S.a.r.l. where he was engaged by Silver Lake Partners from October 2009 to February 2010 as part of their acquisition of Skype. He has held executive vice president and chief financial officer positions at VERITAS Software, Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) and Lotus Development Corporation. Earlier, Gillis was an audit partner at Coopers & Lybrand.
Gillis is also a member of the board of directors of LogMeIn, Responsys and Teradyne, as well as several private technology companies.
“AppNexus is on the cutting edge of digital advertising which remains a vastly promising business sector and highly exciting and dynamic space,” said Edwin J Gillis. “I’m impressed with its management team and business model and look forward to working with the company as it expands globally.”
