San Diego-based Origo Ventures, through its Chilean subsidiary Fen Ventures, has received a grant from the Chilean government’s investment entity CORFO in the amount of one million dollars to support Origo’s investment activities in Chile’s most promising startup companies.
Origo Ventures is a leading early stage investor in Latin American technology companies, investing immediately post-accelerator. Origo was one of the first American firms to recognize the enormous potential of emerging Chilean and Latin American start-ups, leveraging its founders’ experience to identify and invest in the region’s most promising entrepreneurs.
Chile is the innovation epicenter of Latin America. Chile’s pro-business government has established numerous incentives to attract budding entrepreneurs worldwide. Founded in 2010, Accelerator Startup Chile is the centerpiece of government efforts, offering innovators worldwide up to forty thousand dollars and six months of support and graduating 300 companies a year. Resources like these offer entrepreneurs strong incentives to establish their startups in Chile, and have contributed enormously to the country’s leadership in entrepreneurship.
The grant will fund Origo’s operations in Chile for the next five years, kick starting their investment in the best growth possibilities. “The timing and opportunities are ideal for investing in Chilean startups, which attract global talent and serve as the foundation of Latin America’s thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Derek Footer, Managing Partner of Origo Ventures. “Origo and Fen Ventures are honored to have received this grant from the Chilean government, and will use these monies to bolster promising startup companies.”
