TreSensa, a mobile game distribution company, has secured $2 million in Series A financing, led by Caribou Asset Management with participation from several well-known angel investors, including Tremor Video co-founders Jason Glickman and Andrew Reis, American Media CEO David Pecker, and AdMeld founder Ben Barokas. TreSensa raised $1.5 million in seed funding in 2012 and early 2013, bringing its funding to date to just over $3.5 million. As part of the Series A, Michael Elkins, principal, Caribou Asset Management, joins the TreSensa board of directors.
TreSensa enables studios and brands to build and distribute commercial quality mobile web games. Unlike other game distribution platforms that require significant marketing budgets to drive game discovery, TreSensa’s distribution platform secures a worldwide audience without cost by leveraging all available mobile game distribution channels, including mobile game portals, media sites, social gaming platforms, native apps, existing app stores and emerging carrier game stores. Games built on TreSensa’s platform are ultra portable, do not require a download, and can be played directly within Facebook and Twitter’s mobile experiences with just a click of a link. What’s more, TreSensa facilitates mobile game monetization, integrating advertising, in-game purchases and rewards into each game created for and/or supported by its platform.
“People are spending 40 percent of their time on smart phones playing games and this number rises to 67 percent when you look at tablets,” said Robert Grossberg, CEO and co-founder, TreSensa. “Our role is to help game studios and innovative brands take advantage of these consumer behaviors on mobile, creating and distributing HTML5 mobile web games that drive engagement and increase brand loyalty.”
In the past year, TreSensa has experienced 36 percent month over month growth and integrated with more than 60 distribution partners including Amazon.com, Kik, Spil Games, Microsoft and AOL’s Games.com. Some of the earliest adopters of TreSensa’s platform—including HBO and WWE—recognize the engagement potential of mobile games, but need the flexibility of a mobile web game to reach and engage users outside of the native app stores. A mobile web game TreSensa produced for HBO’s True Blood series last spring was nominated for a Sammy Award for Best Branded Social Game of 2013.
In December 2013, TreSensa opened a San Francisco office, leveraging the talent of new hires, and former Mondo Studios executives, Phillip Simon and Valerie Tuffy who now serve as TreSensa’s Executve Creative Director and Executive Producer respectively and manage the company’s branded game business.
“TreSensa saw early on that the mobile web is the perfect platform for casual gaming and has been able to realize its vision of a comprehensive mobile game ecosystem by bringing together the most coveted game developers, distribution partners and brands,” said Michael Elkins, principal, Caribou Asset Management and TreSensa Director. “As TreSensa continues to expand its reach and the mobile web establishes a strong foothold among consumers, we’ll see the company emerge as the de facto leader in HTML5 mobile web game creation and distribution.”
Based in New York and founded by Tremor Video alums Robert Grossberg and Vincent Obermeier and software developer Rakesh Raju, TreSensa is a game development and distribution company that optimizes games for the mobile web. TreSensa supports a growing library of games that are amongst the best performing mobile web games on the market (see www.mobilewebarcade.com). TreSensa is working with top game studios, media companies, cable networks, social networks, game portals, web portals and brands to support their mobile gaming efforts. TreSensa was a member of First Growth Venture Network’s fourth vintage of start-up companies.
