Venture Investment Associates, a venture fund of funds, is approaching a final close on its second seed stage fund that will likely hit its hard cap of $50 million, according to a person with knowledge of the fundraising.
VIA Seed Technology Partners II hit the market last fall. The fund could close by mid-summer, the person said.
VIA could not be reached for comment.
VIA closed its debut seed-stage fund on $25 million in 2012. Performance information for the fund could not be located as of press time. The seed fund has committed capital to funds like First Round Capital, True Ventures and Data Collective.
VIA has an interesting history. The firm was formed by Stathis Andris in 1993 to acquire AVA Partners, the private equity portfolio of the American Express Co, according to the firm’s website. Andris had been an employee of American Express for 21 years and had managed AVA Partners before spinning it out. Andris is now president of general partner of all VIA funds, the website said.
The firm has total capital commitments of $1 billion, according to the website.
