Oaktree IR veteran Kevin Clayton to retire

Oaktree Capital Management veteran Kevin Clayton, who launched the marketing and client relations team at the firm, is retiring, Oaktree confirmed Thursday.

Clayton is leaving Oaktree, where he has worked since 1995, to take over the role as interim president of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Lehigh put out a statement this week announcing Clayton’s appointment as interim president. Clayton will start in the president role Aug. 1, according to the Lehigh statement.

Clayton led the marketing and client relations group at Oaktree until 2010, after which he stepped back but continued working at the firm. Oaktree is not directly replacing Clayton as his responsibilities already had been assumed by members of the team, according to an Oaktree spokeswoman. Oaktree’s marketing and client relations team works on fundraising and LP communications across funds.

The team has at least 44 employees, according to Oaktree’s website, and is led by Nicole Adrien, managing director and global head of client relations, and Tony Harrington, managing director and global head of marketing. The team works in offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, Hong Kong and Dubai.

Clayton, a principal and director at Oaktree, graduated from Lehigh in 1984 with a B.A. in government. He earned an MBA from St. Joseph’s University in 1988.

Prior to Oaktree, Clayton worked for six years at Chrysler Corp, where he held positions in the U.S. automotive sales and marketing division.
