Moscow-based, tech-focused venture firm Runa Capital has raised an undisclosed amount of funding in the first close of its second fund. According to the firm, the fund’s target is $200 million.
July 3 – Runa Capital, a leading Moscow-based global tech-focused venture capital firm, announced today the first closing of its latest fund, Runa Capital II. The target fund size is $200 million. The firm will continue to investments in tech-baked companies worldwide, with specific focus on Europe. The amount of the first closing is not being disclosed.
Investors at this first closing come from across Europe, Russia and the US, with large commitments from investors in previous Runa Capitals’ fund.
«Large investors of Runa Capital II plan to invest to the second fund, their capital shall make the half of target size, which indicates their confidence in our investment strategy,” – says Runa’s managing partner Dmitry Chikhachev “The second half of Runa Capital II, we plan to obtain from new investors.”
The investment strategy of Runa Capital II will continue the existing strategy, investing in tech sector, with focus on cloud computing, hosted services, virtualization, complex software and IT-solutions for fin tech, education, healthcare and social. The geographical focus of the fund will shift more deeply to Central, Eastern and Western European region, also focusing on Turkey and Israel markets, US and APAC region.

Second closing of Runa Capital Fund II will make 2x-3x more capital and is expected before end of 2014 with many of existing LPs and new LPs, with institutional LPs on board. Final venture fund closing is usually 18 months after initial, but as partners say, it’s possible Runa Capital II may launch in full volume earlier, as soon as it reaches target size of $200M. Runa Capital II has now begun active investment period ready to pour money to tech-backed startups.
