Victor Westerlind has joined Intel Capital as part of its team investing in wearable technologies and startups, the firm said.
Westerlind was most recently a general partner at RockPort Capital Partners. Before that, he served as a partner at InterWest Partners.
Westerlind joined Intel Capital on June 30 as a director and will work with Managing Director Rob Rueckert, whose focus is wearables, the Internet of things, device connectivity and applications. Intel Capital’s parent company, chipmaker Intel, underscored its interest in wearables earlier this year by earmarking $100 million for investments in tablets, smartphones, wearables and Internet of things devices in China alone.
Westerlind joined RockPort in 2008 and focused on energy investing as well as the mobile sector. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and was previously employed at Applied Materials.
Westerlind did not reply to an e-mail seeking comment on his new role.
