Global law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed two head of department attorneys to the firm’s New York office. Mitchell Presser becomes head of Freshfields’ US M&A practice and James Douglas joins as head of the firm’s US leveraged finance practice.
Presser was a founding partner of private equity firm Paine + Partners and was with the firm for seven years. He was previously a partner with Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.
Douglas formerly served as head of the banking and finance practice at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Notable transactions he has acted on include the leveraged buyout of RJR Nabisco, Norfolk Southern’s acquisition of Conrail, Colgate-Palmolive’s cross-border acquisition of Kolynos, as well as transactions for financial sponsors, including Kelso‘s leveraged buyouts of Endo, Nortek and Adesa.
