Digital art marketplace Curioos has closed $1.9 million in funding. An unnamed art and retail-related family office investor led the round.
Art has always been an important part of human life. As these lives have become increasingly digital, the emergence of the so-called “digital art” was no surprise. Led by illustrators, graphic designers, photo manipulators, 3D artists, typographers, pixel artists, glitch artists and more, the movement quickly spread over the internet as a new digital trend.
However, a piece has always been missing to the puzzle. As software began replacing the paintbrush, something was needed to bring this digital art back to the physical word.
That’s what Curioos is doing by meticulously curating the best digital artists, selecting their best pieces, printing, and letting you purchase them in your favorite sizes and support, perfectly fitting the walls of your home or office.
It all started mid-2011, when Matt Valoatto launched a Tumblr blog dedicated to digital graphic arts. As it was quickly followed by hundreds of thousands of followers, he decided to take one step further by creating Curioos.
Another step is taken today with the announcement of a $1.9M investment in New York led by a major art & retail related family office investor. “The fund raising will be instrumental in bringing more visibility and opportunities to our artists. Our main focus will therefore be to improve the experience of buying art online.” says Valoatto.
This development may be seen as an answer to the densification of the digital art scene. It’s also more proof that digital art’s future may lie in bringing it onto your walls – especially with players like Electric Objects still hitting the headlines.
If you want to buy digital art prints for your home or office or even possibly as a christmas present, Curioos is also launching two new collections this week: Man Cave and Post-Punk & Vintage Comics.
