Adams Street Partners has named John Amboian to its board of directors. He will be succeeding A. Bart Holaday who will be retiring. The appointment becomes effective March 2017. Amboian is the non-executive chairman of Nuveen Investments.
CHICAGO, 16 November, 2016 – Adams Street Partners has announced the appointment of John Amboian to the firm’s Board of Directors, effective March 2017. Mr. Amboian will take the place of long-standing Director A.Bart Holaday, who announced his intention to retire from the board earlier this year.

Mr. Amboian is currently the Non-Executive Chairman of Nuveen Investments, having previously held the position of Chairman and CEO from 2007 through early 2016. Mr. Amboian joined Nuveen in 1995 and served as the CFO until 1999, when he was appointed the firm’s President.

Prior to joining Nuveen, Mr. Amboian held key business and financial positions in the beverage and food businesses. He was Senior Vice President of Finance, Strategic Planning and Systems and Chief Financial Officer of Miller Brewing Company. Mr. Amboian began his career in corporate and international finance at Kraft Foods, where he ultimately served as its Treasurer.

Mr. Amboian holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Chicago. In addition to chairing the board of Nuveen, he previously served on the Nuveen Mutual Funds board. He is an adviser to Madison Dearborn Partners and also is a member of the Executive Committee of Lurie Children’s Hospital, where he previously chaired the investment committee. Mr. Amboian currently chairs the board of the North Shore Country Day School Foundation and serves on the boards of several civic and cultural organizations in the Chicago area.
