Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio is joining Boston-based internet-focused venture firm Data Point Capital as a special adviser.
DiCaprio’s responsibilities were not identified but according to Data Point, he is a limited partner in the firm and made an undisclosed investment in its second newly launched fund.
Prior to his involvement with Data Point, DiCaprio contributed funding to a number of startups. They included Qloo, a New York City-based entertainment platform, in which he participated in a $4.5 million Series A funding round in June 2016 and diamond startup Diamond Foundry in which he participated in a $100 million funding round in November 2015, according to Crunchbase data.
Data Point’s portfolio companies include programmatic TV startup Clypd and New York City-based on-demand home and office painting service Paintzen.
In 2016, DiCaprio won an Academy Award for his role in the film “The Revenant.” He has been nominated for six Academy Award nominations. Among his best known movies are “Titanic,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “The Aviator” and “The Departed.”
