Design platform provider Framer attracts $24 mln Series B

Amsterdam-based Framer, a provider of an interactive design platform, has secured $24 million in Series B funding. Atomico led the round.

November 12, 2018 – Amsterdam – Framer, the Amsterdam-based startup behind the world’s leading interactive design platform Framer X, today announced a $24M Series B investment, led by Atomico. This latest investment will be used to continue building out the only platform that designers and product teams will ever need to build digital products from start to finish.

Framer X is a fully-integrated design, prototyping and developer handoff tool powered by React, making it the only tool of its kind to truly blend design and development workflows.

Unlike competitors, Framer X allows designers and developers to create, import, publish and use brand assets and interactive components created by their own teams or the larger design community. From video players, live maps and data generators to UI Kits and interactive design systems, every package in the Framer X Store is configured to work out-of-the-box, so anyone can install, drag and drop them into their designs.

The company is also announcing the beta launch of a private design store for teams on Framer X. The Team Store will allow members of teams at the same company to collaborate and share everything from brand assets and design components to truly interactive design systems all within the platform. Thereby creating a truly global shared living design system.

“Just two months after its launch, Framer X is already changing the landscape of design as we know it. With Atomico’s investment and today’s beta launch of the private design store, we are even closer to achieving our mission of building the only platform that designers and product teams will ever need. We believe Framer X is already the world’s best platform for enabling any business to build world-class digital products. And we’re only just getting started,” said Koen Bok, co-founder and CEO of Framer.

This latest investment brings total funds raised to date by the Amsterdam-based startup to $33M. Previous investors Accel London and AngelList also participated in the round.

Every business is now a digital business, so building digital products has become mission critical to keep up with customer demands. Yet, there is not a single platform for all members of product teams – from designers and engineers to product managers – to collaborate and build world-class digital products together. This is the problem that Framer solves.

“The world’s best digital products, like Google, Facebook, Dropbox, Twitter, and Snap, are designed and built by teams. Those teams are already using Framer X,” said Hiro Tamura, Partner at Atomico. “We are excited about partnering with Koen, Jorn, and the Framer team to help make that level of digital product excellence and innovation accessible to any company in any traditional industry, from financial services to retail and beyond.”

“We were blown away by Koen and Jorn’s deep expertise in product design and their strengths as entrepreneurs after exiting their first company to Facebook where they lead product, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg. This duo is showing the world that the world’s next game-changing growth companies are coming out of Europe,” added Tamura.

The latest investment will help Framer focus on expanding the reach of its platform in 2019. Framer also plans more than triple its team by adding product development, engineering, sales and and on-the-ground support roles in North America, Europe, and Asia.
