UK-based edtech startup Unibuddy has secured $5 million in Series A funding. Fred Destin of Stride VC led the round.

PRESS RELEASE

8 JULY: EdTech peer-to-peer leader, Unibuddy, has closed a $5 million Series A funding round led by Fred Destin of Stride VC.

The raise will help Unibuddy connect more future students around the world with current university students. Unibuddy powers conversations at one third of UK universities, works with over 150 institutions worldwide, and most recently announced a landmark partnership with the UK Admissions Service, UCAS.

The raise will fund plans to grow the Unibuddy team, which currently spans 4 continents. The company will focus on US expansion, and more impactful products such as Unibuddy on UCAS.

In the three years since founding, Unibuddy has powered over half a million conversations on the Unibuddy platform. The London based company has big ambitions to help every student feel confident in their progression to university. The Series A funding follows $2 million seed funding.

Other investors include:
Bart Swanson – seed investor and Board member of Zoom
Daniel Borel – Founder and Chairman of Logitech
Shakil Khan – early investor and Advisor of Spotify
Unibuddy CEO, Diego Fanara, said: “Unibuddy’s potential growth is huge, and this Series A funding will allow us to continue growing and connect more students.

“Our mission is to enable students to empower students with the knowledge and confidence they need to allow them to progress through education.

“We are growing rapidly in the US – with institutions such as the University of Southern California and Cornell Tech launching the platform. We’ll support that growth by expanding our New York team.”

Together, the platform and student ambassadors provide an outlet for an institution’s authentic voice, a ready stream of content, and a deeper insight into the market’s motivations.

A simple widget on an institution website allows prospects and ambassadors to chat and foster a sense of belonging – even before applying. Over 100 years’ collective experience in university marketing and recruitment means Unibuddy helps to make it happen.

We’re working with 150 institutions across the world, and our partners have seen the platform optimise conversion throughout the student application cycle, from lead generation all the way through to enrolment.
