Freeman Spogli racks up $1.85 bln for eighth fund

Los Angeles and New York City-based Freeman Spogli & Co, a middle-market private equity firm, has closed its eighth fund at its $1.85 billion hard cap.

The limited partners of FS Equity Partners VIII LP include public and private pension funds, insurance companies, endowments, foundations, financial institutions and family offices.

The fund will seek to deploy $75 million to $300 million equity per investment in consumer and distribution companies in North America.

Lazard was the lead placement agent, while Triago acted as placement agent for several European investors. Ropes & Gray LLP provided legal counsel on the fund.

In October 2014, Freeman Spogli raised $1.3 billion for its seventh fund,  PE HUB reported at that time. Performance data was not available.
