Alex Lloyd has agreed to join the Hong Kong office of Sidley Austin as a partner in the firm’s U.S. Corporate Finance practice, with a focus on debt and equity capital markets transactions.
Sidley Austin is pleased to announce that Alex Lloyd will join the Hong Kong office as a partner in its U.S. Corporate Finance practice, effective May 1, 2010.
Mr. Lloyd’s practice focuses on debt and equity capital markets, including high yield debt offerings and IPOs. He has represented issuers and underwriters in a number of notable high yield offerings in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea and China. On the equity side, he has primarily focused on Hong Kong IPOs with a Rule 144A tranche, as well as other global equity issues listed in Singapore. Mr. Lloyd’s practice covers a wide area of other capital markets activities including investment grade debt offerings, restructurings, SEC regulatory compliance and liability management transactions.
“Alex is an experienced capital markets lawyer who brings a wealth of experience in the high yield and capital markets arenas,” said William O. Fifield, Sidley’s managing partner in the Greater China Region. “He will be a key player in our already deep bench of over 50 corporate lawyers in Asia/Pacific.”
Sidley’s regional corporate finance team is recognized for handling complex deals requiring legal innovation. Our lawyers have worked on some of Asia’s most complex and high profile debt, equity, restructuring and private equity transactions. Sidley was recently named by International Financial Law Review (IFLR) as Most Innovative U.S. Law Firm 2010 in its Asia Awards.
“Sidley has a strong global practice in debt capital markets, and our Asia/Pacific offices are critical to that practice,” said Thomas W. Albrecht, a member of the firm’s Management Committee with general management responsibility for the firm’s Asia/Pacific operations. “As the region continues its unprecedented economic growth, capital raising will be necessary to fuel that growth, and we anticipate that the high yield debt and equity capital markets will continue to be very active. We welcome Alex as the newest member of our team and we look forward to his many contributions to our future growth and expansion.”
For over 25 years, Sidley has had an established presence in the Asia/Pacific region. This is an important and significant region for Sidley, accounting for six out of Sidley’s seventeen offices and resident to over 110 lawyers. Sidley is also one of the top international law firms for listings on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, acting on 11 IPOs in 2009 alone.
“I know the strength of Sidley’s corporate finance practice, having worked alongside the firm’s lawyers on several transactions. I am impressed with Sidley’s commitment to the region and found the opportunity to join the team compelling,” Mr. Lloyd said.
Mr. Lloyd received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University and his B.A., with honors, from Dartmouth. He has practiced law in Hong Kong for five years, after previously practicing in London and Washington, D.C.
