Schafer Corp. , a Metalmark Capital portfolio company, said Wednesday that Mark Andersson was named president and chief operating officer effective Jan. 1. Andersson recently served as COO of Applied Signal Technology.

Schafer Corporation, a leading provider of scientific, engineering, and technical services and products applied to defeating national security threats, today announced that it has appointed Mark Andersson to the newly created position of President and Chief Operating Officer, effective January 1, 2013. Mr. Andersson is a seasoned executive with a demonstrated track record of driving revenue, operating income and market share growth for providers of engineering and technical services to the federal government.

Mr. Andersson recently served as the Chief Operating Officer of Applied Signal Technology Inc. In that position, he helped lead Applied Signal through a period of strong growth and expansion, culminating in the sale of the company to Raytheon. Prior to Applied Signal, Mr. Andersson worked for over 25 years in various capacities at Harris Corporation. During his tenure there, he held increasingly senior-level positions within multiple government lines of business.
