ArchiMed nears fundraising target

ArchiMed’s first fund, Med I FIA, has reached a first close with 15 international institutional and private investors. Triago acted as ArchiMed’s placement agent. Based in Lyon, ArchiMed is focused on the healthcare sector in Europe.

ArchiMed’s first fund, Med I FIA, realized a first closing of nearly €100m on April 1st 2014 with 15 international institutional and private investors. Med I is targeting €120m. Global private equity fund advisor Triago is ArchiMed’s placement agent.
Based in Lyon, ArchiMed is the first independent private equity team 100% dedicated to the healthcare sector in Europe. ArchiMed’s first closing was timed with the formal March 31st resignation from 3i of ArchiMed founder Denis Ribon. He had been on gardening leave from 3i since mid-December. The terms of Denis Ribon’s gardening leave permitted him to begin fundraising for ArchiMed immediately. The first close occurred three months after that fundraising process began.
Global Head of Healthcare at 3i until his resignation, Denis Ribon and three colleagues from his 3i team created ArchiMed to invest in small and medium-sized European healthcare companies. “In European healthcare, the demand for specialized capital greatly exceeds supply,” says Ribon, ArchiMed’s managing partner. “The sector’s tremendous investment opportunities made it an irresistible moment for an experienced team like ours to strike out on our own.” The ArchiMed team focuses on all healthcare sectors, including Care and Wellness, Medtech, Biopharma, and Public Health. ArchiMed targets profitable, established healthcare providers, investing €5 million to €15 million per operation, primarily through leveraged buyouts.
The team is currently working on potential deals in France, the U.K. and Switzerland. Leveraging on its experience at 3i, the ArchiMed team will continue to invest in lower mid-market companies based throughout Europe.
In the last thirteen years, Denis Ribon and his three ArchiMed co-founders, Vincent Guillaumot, Cédric Berger, and David Piccoli have invested nearly €750 million in over 20 companies, achieving a total return of over 2.5 times invested capital.
ArchiMed’s long experience, sector knowledge and industry connections help healthcare entrepreneurs and executives run their businesses better. ArchiMed notably participates in accelerating the growth of companies through the access it provides to key potential clients and through carefully managed acquisitions that offer domestic and international expansion opportunities.
